The event will be guided by Chef Turtle of Flavor Trip Food Truck based in Martin, Tennessee. Chef Turtle will lead participants through three delicious fall-themed recipes: squash bisque, candied sweet potatoes with pecans and pumpkin seed granola, and a sweet potato-inspired dessert.

To receive the list of ingredients, those who are interested should RSVP today.

“The purpose of the event is to create a family-friendly learning space where people can learn from a local chef cooking locally-grown products,” says Caroline Ideus, Outreach Coordinator for the Local Food Network. “I hope this event encourages people to try a new approach to cooking and tasting local produce.”

Chef Turtle discovered his desire to become a chef in high school after making a commercial for a radio and television class. For over 10 years, he has worked as a sous chef in multiple high-end Nashville restaurants. His experience covers a wide variety of styles, including Japanese, French and Italian. Currently, Chef Turtle is a chef at Blue Oak Oyster Bar and Grill in Martin. His next project, the Flavor Trip Food Truck, will be opening soon.

While participants join in cooking along with Chef Turtle from their homes, the event will be hosted telethon-style to help raise funds for the Local Food Network’s #Seed Money Campaign. All donations will benefit the Network’s childhood agriculture education programs and community outreach initiatives in 2023.

The recipes featured during the Cook-a-Long are inspired by “Taste of Tennessee” products, of which all participants are encouraged to source locally.
